At St John with St Mark, we have been implementing the new National Curriculum from September 2014. As well as following the Department for Education guidelines, we are also designing a curriculum fit for the learning of our unique school community.

Phonics in EYFS and Key Stage One
At St John with St Mark, in line with statutory requirements, we are preparing for an exciting transition with regard to our phonics teaching. Staff are currently receiving training on Little Wandle Letters and Sounds which is a validated phonics scheme for primary schools. The scheme is amazing and we are very excited to get started! The scheme includes all resources and materials to support parents at home. More information to follow soon! Our phonics teaching, using Letters and Sounds will continue in the meantime.
We have a rigorous home reading system using a combination of different reading schemes to ensure breadth of reading experience. We currently use Big Cats, Rigby Star and Lighthouse reading schemes. Children's books are changed frequently and awards are given out for regular readers.
For our topic work we follow the Cornerstones Education Curriculum. Use this link to look at the overview.
